Chesterfield Running Day 2008

353 and 124 with 306 in the background at Chesterfield Railway Station during the 2011 running day.

This is the 13th consecutive year that this event has been held, and we are again to use the bus park at St. Mary’s R.C. High School at Newbold as the centre for our day.  This is ideal in that it has the correct number of platforms and bus stops for the number of routes operated.

Our timetable this year has been amended following requests for both variety and some longer routes, with just three of the previous short runs being retained, and services added to Baslow, Dronfield and Staveley.  Thus all the buses taking part will meet at 1240, 1430 to 1500 and 1650 hours, with at least half the entrants connecting at St. Mary’s at 1320, 1400, 1540 and 1620 hours giving ample opportunity to sample your favourite buses and routes.

There will again be a mid-afternoon line-up of all the buses present for the benefit of photographers.  We realise that it is ideal to have certain buses parked together, but must insist that the vehicles park up in the order in which they arrive back at the school, for there is neither the time nor the space to make shunting manoeuvres.  With new routes this year it is difficult to know which runs will arrive back first to try and arrange any sort of line-up order.

The costs involved in owning and running preserved vehicles are very high, and thus I would ask you to treat the vehicles with respect and to follow the instructions of drivers, conductors and marshals.  Please do have safety in mind when viewing and photographing the buses in the Town Centre and other termini, be aware of other moving vehicles and do not impede people going about their normal daily lives.

Details of the services to be operated today are shown overleaf.  At the time of writing we do not know exactly which buses will be attending, and thus the workings are shown as letters.  Timetables giving the bus numbers will be available on the day, and hopefully, a few days previously.

Finally, I wish to thank St. Mary’s High School for kind permission to use their Bus Park facilities, Chesterfield Borough Council and Stagecoach for allowing us to use the Coach Station, Dennis Vickers for producing the timetable and undertaking much of the preparatory work, Roy Wilson and Dan Stone for acting as inspectors, and to all the owners and drivers of the buses taking part.
