123 Group vehicles at Chatsworth

Our buses are seen here lined up together at Chatsworth at the 2009 gathering.

The weather was dry and bright as the preserved buses began to enter Chatsworth Park through the magnificent Golden Gates for the 2009 Gathering. Additional parking room had been granted to replace spaces lost through renovation work, and soon the roads and fields surrounding the famous House were covered with an amazing variety of buses of all makes and sizes dating between 1935 and 1986. When the free bus services began at 11.30 a.m. queues were already forming, and the five minute frequency to various points along local country lanes was well loaded. A highlight was the number of connections on route giving the opportunity, for example, to make a round trip travelling on a Devon General open top Atlantean, a Manchester Leyland PD2 and a North Western Tiger Cub.

Thus we are to keep to our well tried formula for the 2010 event, for there can be no finer spectacle than a large variety of preserved buses on parade before the majestic fascade of one of England's grandest stately homes. Once again we invite those, whose buses are fully restored, to enter them for judging by our panel of experts, and all exhibitors and their guests are offered reduced price admission should they wish to view the interior of Chatsworth House and its gardens.

The highlight for many, of the Chatsworth event, is the opportunity to ride on the buses entered, and our comprehensive schedules allow for over 20 vehicles to work on the frequent preserved bus services through the glorious Peak District. For 2010 these services will be similar to last years, but a connection on journeys towards Bakewell will be added to allow passengers an even greater variety of buses on which to travel. Again owners are invited to choose the length of time they wish their bus to be used in service, and we are very grateful to the increasing number who make their vehicles available in this way for all to enjoy.

Sales stalls for those bringing a bus are very welcome, and there is limited open air space for other traders. Please note that, because of the proximity of Chatsworth's own outlets, sales must be restricted to transport related items only.

With additional parking areas having been granted, an entry limit has not been imposed for 2010, but we are to retain the special character of our event by inviting only preserved buses and those restored by operators in their 'heritage fleets'. Please do not enter any modern vehicle, or bus that is still in regular service. We do hope that we have whetted your appetite and can welcome you and your bus. To enter simply download, complete and return the attached form along with your £3 fee.

We can now confirm that the Bedford OB Gathering in 2010 is being held as part of the Chatsworth Rally, and the Bedford OB owners have publicised this on their website (bedfordob.com)  We plan to line up the OB's down by the river, and they have been offered the opportunity of a parade to the Golden Gates and back at 4.30 p.m. (after the prize giving).  We are very happy to  play host to these little coaches from the 1940's and 1950's and hope that some of them may be available for the preserved bus services.

Looking forward to seeing you in June.
